Early morning. The middle of the day. Right before you sleep. Seemingly pointless forwards from aunts, uncles, parents, grandparents or even that neighbour on the eleventh floor. From ‘Good Morning’ messages to home remedies. You wonder why they bother. But before you hit that mute button, think. Could there be something more to this? Is it merely another random forward or could it be a plea for help from a senior who is lonely and really wants someone to talk to? At this time, a warm reply from you can actually make all the difference. So the next time you receive a forward from a senior, reply with:

“Hello, did you have breakfast? Don’t forget to take your medicines.” “What are you doing this evening? Let’s chat.” “Do you need help with anything? Groceries? Doctor visits?”

Or anything else that makes them feel loved and cared for.

#ReplyDontReject is a movement, a pledge, a promise. To reach out to the seniors in our lives and make them feel less alone. A recent report by Agewell Foundation suggests over 64.1% of India’s seniors are lonely. This World Senior Citizens Day, let us take the pledge to change the statistics.
